BreathersBliss Lab · Practical guide
Trail running rarely holds one rhythm for long: hiking uphill, running a flatter section, descending technical ground and stopping at an aid station. A nasal strip can complement your kit if you enjoy comfortable support around the nasal entrance. An ultra also raises questions about wear time, skin and whether reapplication is realistic. At altitude, opening the nose is not the same as acclimatising.
Test BreathersBliss on a familiar trail before a long event. Apply to clean, dry skin, keep spares protected from moisture and follow the wear instructions. A strip supplies no extra oxygen and does not prevent altitude illness.
An external strip gently supports the sides of the nose while worn. It leaves your mouth free and does not need to come off to drink from a flask or eat. Judge its usefulness by nasal comfort across different parts of the run, not by the elevation gain on your watch.
On a demanding climb, let your breathing adapt and hike when your strategy or the terrain calls for it. Breathing through your mouth is compatible with wearing the strip. On a technical descent, focus on footing: accessory adjustments can wait until you stop somewhere safe. Comfort should not become a distraction.
Start on a familiar loop with an easy way back. Apply a fresh strip before sweating, on healthy, clean and fully dry skin. Check it with your glasses, cap and neck covering. Applying before the warm-up is more useful than rushing to stick one on midway along the trail.
BreathersBliss Intense strips have reinforced adhesion designed for sport. Still check wear with your own equipment, weather and sweat levels. Keep the sun protection you need and arrange application according to the products’ instructions. Pat your face rather than rubbing the edges with a sleeve or towel.
A race lasting many hours does not establish that one strip can stay on until the finish. Follow the wear time stated for your model, counting time before the start too. Do not borrow a 12- or 24-hour limit from another brand. If the instructions do not clarify the duration your event requires, ask BreathersBliss before race day.
Keep spares protected, dry and away from dirt. For replacement, stop somewhere stable, clean your hands and make sure the skin can be cleaned and dried. Do not apply a fresh strip over an old one or onto irritated skin. Replacement is not automatically needed at every aid station, and there is no universal number of strips for an ultra.
If proper reapplication is not possible, gently remove an uncomfortable strip and continue without it only if you otherwise feel well. Do not layer strips for stronger hold. Read the skin and removal guide beforehand so that removal stays gentle instead of becoming repeated pulling during the race.
Atmospheric pressure falls with altitude. Oxygen becomes less available with each breath even though its proportion in the air stays broadly the same. A strip acts around the nasal entrance; it changes neither outside pressure nor acclimatisation. A more open sensation therefore does not show that you are ready to climb higher.
Plan an appropriate ascent and route. If symptoms suggest altitude illness, such as a headache after ascent with nausea or dizziness, do not go higher and seek advice. Worsening symptoms require safe descent. Confusion, poor coordination or breathlessness at rest need urgent help; do not try to compensate with an accessory.
An Intense pouch contains 30 single-use strips, allowing you to plan training trials and keep clean spares without reusing removed strips. Once you know the fit suits you, choose a pouch or pack around your usual running frequency from the options below. Check adhesion and skin tolerance before extending wear.
After the run, record nasal comfort, the conditions affecting adhesion and your skin after removal. That practical review is more useful than a promised finish-time improvement. For an organised race, also check its current rules and mandatory equipment: a comfort strip replaces none of that kit.
Yes, as a comfort accessory you have already tested. Race duration does not guarantee one strip will suit the whole event; follow the instructions and your skin’s tolerance.
There is no fixed number. Plan around wear instructions and opportunities for clean application, not automatic replacement at every aid station.
Wait until healthy skin can be cleaned and dried. Otherwise adhesion is uncertain; do not add glue to compensate.
It supports the nasal entrance locally, but does not change atmospheric pressure, replace acclimatisation or prevent altitude illness.
No. Let your mouth contribute and adjust pace. The strip does not set a breathing rhythm or climbing speed.
Intense offers reinforced adhesion for sport. Try it on a familiar loop, then choose quantity around your planned outings.
