How to apply nasal strips: finding the right position

BreathersBliss Lab · Practical guide

Apply a nasal strip across the outside of the nose, with the centre over the bridge at the level of the nasal wings and the ends resting evenly on either side. Keep the nostril openings clear. Correct placement depends on these landmarks, not a fixed measurement that fits every face.

At a glance

For BreathersBliss strips, start with clean, completely dry skin, position the ends symmetrically and press them for 30 seconds. Aim for a comfortable, gentle lift, not the strongest possible pull.

01

Where should the strip sit?

Look straight into a mirror. The nasal wings are the soft sides surrounding the nostril openings. Align the strip so its centre crosses the bridge and each end sits on the skin beside this area. Nothing goes inside the nostrils.

Too high, near the upper bridge where some glasses rest, and the strip may miss the intended support area. Too low, and it may interfere with the nostril edges or fit poorly. The BreathersBliss illustrated application guide is the reference for the shape you are using; do not copy another person's position without checking your own fit.

02

A simple application sequence

  1. Clean the contact area gently. Remove cream, make-up and oily residue without scrubbing the skin raw.
  2. Dry thoroughly. After a shower or preparation wipe, wait until the skin is fully dry.
  3. Peel off the backing. Avoid handling the adhesive more than necessary.
  4. Centre the strip. Check both ends in the mirror before securing them to the sides of the nose.
  5. Press for 30 seconds. This follows the BreathersBliss instructions, rather than a rule for every brand.

Apply before sweating starts, not halfway through a warm-up. At bedtime, finish facial care first and make sure the actual adhesive area is clean and dry. A second strip is not a fix for poor placement.

03

Check fit before checking the clock

Breathe normally rather than taking an exaggerated sniff. The strip should leave the nostrils open, lie securely at both ends and feel comfortable. A loose end that does not touch the skin cannot provide reliable adhesion.

Now try your usual glasses. Turn your head, talk and walk around. The frame should not push the strip down or lift its edges. A dramatic sensation is not a fitting target: how noticeable the support feels is different from how accurately you positioned it.

04

What if you placed it too high or crooked?

Remove it gently and use a fresh strip once the skin is clean, dry and comfortable. BreathersBliss strips are single-use; repeatedly peeling and repositioning one can compromise its grip.

If the position looks right but an edge keeps lifting, check moisture, skincare residue and rubbing. Our guide to nasal strips that will not stay on helps separate an adhesion problem from a placement problem. Do not add household glue or extra tape.

Take the strip off if it hurts or irritates your skin. Stronger tension is not evidence of better use. Persistent nasal blockage deserves professional advice rather than endless adjustments.

05

Make the routine familiar

Try the fit at home or on an easy training day before relying on it for a race or bedtime. Use the same glasses and other equipment you normally wear so that an awkward contact point becomes obvious early.

BreathersBliss Intense nasal strips follow the same fitting principles. Reinforced adhesion still needs prepared skin. When finished, support the skin and peel gently instead of pulling sharply; check the area before the next application.

Frequently asked questions

Does a nasal strip go on the tip of the nose?

No. The centre crosses the bridge at the level of the nasal wings, with the ends on either side. Keep both nostril openings clear.

Is there an exact distance from the nostrils?

Not one measurement that works for every nose. Use your nasal wings and the illustrated instructions for your particular strip as the landmarks.

Can I move a strip once it is stuck down?

If correcting the position means removing it, use a fresh strip. A removed BreathersBliss strip is not intended to be reapplied.

Is placement different for running and sleeping?

For the same strip, the intended location stays the same. Running adds considerations such as sweat, glasses and wiping your face.

Should it feel like a strong pull?

No. A comfortable light support is the goal. Pain or excessive tension is a reason to remove it, not a sign that it is working better.

Can I put one on after showering?

Wait until the nose is clean, fully dry and not irritated. A quick towel dab does not always remove all moisture.
